G.O.D. It’s the English Word for …

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

Many newcomers bristle when they see the word ‘God’ in the steps, or hear the word in meetings. That makes sense, however there were likely many times that this prayer was uttered: “God, get me out of this one, and I’ll never drink again”. And of course, at the very end, the ubiquitous alcoholic prayer, “God help me”.

God is the English word that we use for what it is we are talking about. It is just a word, but many people have a really hard time with this word. Here are some acronym suggestions that have worked well for hundreds of thousands of alcoholics:

G.O.D. – Good Orderly Direction

G.O.D. – Group Of Drunks (the AA fellowship)

G.O.D. – Great Out Doors
