To my friends past and present at A Home Away,
Tonight I am asking for your prayers. My cousin, who is also an addict, begged for help last week. His parents took him to detox in Kelowna; they went to pick him up from detox to take him to treatment and he ended up using on the way. He is now in the care of his parents at their home. I am afraid for his life, they don't understand what a cunning baffling enemy of life addiction is. His addict has manipulated the situation to stay afloat. I ask all my fellow AHA'ers to pray for his safety and recovery. Hopefully he will be blessed enough to make it to AHA one day, just like we have.

Life in recovery is beautiful!

Thanks Cheryl,

Yes it is easy to love those that love you back. Have you read Immaculee Ilibagiza's book Left to Tell ?/ It is one of the most powerfully moving and challenging story of forgiveness ever.

ODAAT,
Jane

This is beautiful and such a reminder that the world often retaliates towards peaceful and peace loving individuals. It is always easy to love those who are themselves loving towards us, the real challenge for us is to love those who are unlovable, or who are acting out with vicious behaviors towards us.
Thank you for this reminder at a time when I myself needed such a reminder for my own heart to heal and move forward!
Love and Light!

I love your comment about humility...& px of the dog. One is counseled "not to think more of himself than is necessary, but to think so as to have a sound mind..."Romans 12:3

I have been in the business for a few years and know first hand the struggles people with this disease have. I, myself have been sober now for some time and been given the gift of working with alcoholic and drug addicts for the past 10 years. I have spent some time at Home Away and and was able to see how Jane and John are changing peoples lives. It is very sad to see people with this desease be treated like second hand citizens. However what a blessing it is when they are given a chance to rebuild and change their lives and become respectable members of our society. This is what Home Away is doing for people and their families. I totally support Home Away and hope it continues changing lives.

Great work Jane, it's great following your blog!

LOVE fake it 'til you make it! I felt really weak and powerless for so long in my life, but whenever I had to get through a really hard situation, I'd always bring to mind someone amazing that I admired and think "how would they handle this situation?". Then I'd pretend I was them when confronting hard stuff, and amazingly I could DO IT! Still use that technique - and am really getting that I CAN DO IT! That person is ME!!

Keep going "A Home Away".... you guys are doing very good things for this world! xo

I attended Home Away three years ago. A key aspect of Home Away is just that - it's a home. The neighbourhood setting is a key component for those seeking help for a variety of personnel issues. Most of those who attended with me came from out of the area and none of us had a vehicle so parking was never an issue for the neighbours. Outside of the occasional walk with 3 or 4 of us, our activities were within the Home Away property. With a rigorous schedule we went to bed early and rose early. Our habits were less random that a typical resident of sub-division.

I fully support Home Away remaining as it has been for the past several years. It provides a much needed resource for people from the Okanagan and other parts of Canada. Home Away also contributes to the local economy.

I hope the District of West Kelowna considers all of the positive aspects of Home Away and vote for it to remain where it is and offering the services most needed.

As an aside, as a result of my stay at Home Away, the coaching and counselling they provided, I have been sober for just about 3 years now. The beauty and tranquility of the neighbourhood contributed to my achievement. Please don't ruin it!
