A Home Away is a private facility offering benefits above those of traditional institutional treatment centers. It is an intimate setting where we accept no more than eight (8) guests at a time. We have a continuous intake process which means you will not need to wait long for a spot to open up for you, and that when you arrive you will receive the attention you deserve as our new guest. You will be treated with dignity and respect, and have your own private bedroom in our beautiful home setting overlooking the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. You will receive individual attention, sharing your recovery experience with no more than 7 fellow guests just like you, some of whom will become your life long friends. You and your fellow guests will share in wonderful meals prepared by our world-class chefs, together with your hosts, John and Jane.
Are you a business or health professional? If you are discerning to choose the best private treatment facility, you will feel at home here. All are welcome.
Accepting no more than eight guests allows for you to have a lot of individual attention. We will not let you slip through the cracks here! There are no 'back rows' in our sessions! Our counselors are outstanding, and the program is comprehensive. We will get to know you intimately, and will help you identify and heal from the deepest of past hurts. No stone is left unturned! And you will even have some fun along the way too! You will join in our weekly recreation day, rediscovering some passions such as skiing, golf or hiking, and likely feel challenged to try something new. You will fall in love with our chocolate lab, Cocoa, taking him for walks on beautiful trails, or down to the lake for a swim.
If you are like most of our guests, you may be feeling afraid, alone, broken or hurt before you arrive. You may feel some guilt, shame, remorse, fear, or anger. Through your stay, your mind, body and spirit will begin to heal. Peace, serenity, and hope will flourish in you. You will complete the program with a new zest for life, self respect, and optimism. You will find that you have learned to love life again. You will have new tools to live life on life's terms. You will be happy, joyous and free. Your once unhealthy, sad face will transform to healthy vigour and radiance. You may be reluctant to come at first, but by the end of your 42 or 91 day program, you will be sad to leave the friends you will have made. Yet, you will be eager to begin your new life of recovery free from addiction. The transformation you will experience at A Home Away is nothing less than a miracle!
As part of our abstinent based program, you will develop a 'Design for Living' with a new Vision for your life. And we will arrange ongoing support for you within the Twelve Step fellowship in your community, so that you will have support to sustain your recovery as soon as you get home. As our former guest, we will encourage you to stay in touch with your 'Home Away', and we will support you with your ongoing positive change, whether it be at work, school, home, within the family or other relationships, or recreation and leisure. We have an open door policy, which means that you are welcome, indeed encouraged, to keep in regular contact for support. You will be invited to come often to visit, share a meal, and to simply touch base with your home away family that cares about you deeply.
The miracle of recovery at A Home Away can be yours! Please browse through our site and check us out. Read what our guests have to say about their recovery at A Home Away. If we have what you want, give us a call. We are ready to help!

Drug Treatment:
People facing drug abuse watch their lives slowly slip through their fingers as each day passes. Months and years go by and addicts lose all semblance of control over themselves and live day-to-day empty, alone, and unfulfilled.
Most addicts desperately want to regain control of their lives but are emotionally and physically incapable of doing it alone. It is important that everyone who feels their life spiraling out of control enters a drug treatment program. A Home Away is a safe haven for people looking to defeat their substance abuse problems. Located in British Columbia's beautiful Okanagan Valley near Vancouver, BC, this home-like retreat provides the perfect backdrop for guests to rest, rebalance and renew themselves on the way to sobriety. Their small group of highly qualified drug treatment counselors and limited number of patients ensures all guests have access to individual counseling sessions and personalized and effective drug treatment programs. A Home Away's holistic approach to drug treatment and emphasis on mind, body, and spirit, guarantees guests will walk away sober and renewed from the inside out.
Alcohol Rehabilitation Center:
Alcoholism is an extremely difficult disease to defeat. Alcoholics battle with cravings their entire lives; their hunger for a drink often overpowers their desire and need for security and happiness.
No one wants to be rendered powerless over their own life but alcoholics often lose control before they are able to stop themselves. For everyone looking to conquer their alcoholism, A Home Away offers a safe and serene retreat to receive counseling and guidance. A Home Away is a top-notch alcohol rehabilitation center that specializes in personalized substance abuse programs, recreational activities, and spirituality to renew the mind, body, and spirit and promote sobriety. Their family-like environment and customizable program lengths guarantee guests will receive the personal attention they need to defeat their alcoholism. Whether looking to complete the initial 42-day program or stay for three or four months, they let guests decide when they are ready to rejoin the world. A true home away from home, A Home Away provides guests with a secure location to rebalance and rejuvenate.
Substance Abuse Treatment:
Substance abuse does not only affect the person battling the addiction. Families are often emotionally crippled by their loved ones addictions. Parents stay up nights praying their child is still alive and brothers and sisters spend years trying to convince their siblings to enter programs.
Substance abuse can easily tear apart even the closest of families. When a loved one seeks substance abuse treatment it is often a huge relief to their families. Unfortunately, while treatment lends piece of mind, it does not erase scars. Most family members will have a hard time forgiving and trusting their loved one. As part of their 42-day program, A Home Away offers three to five day family sessions, where they facilitate communication between guests and their families to promote healthy and renewed relationships. Their family therapy sessions are built to resolve resentment and work through family member's emotions and issues. Families will benefit from talking and seeing their loved one attentive and happy for the first time in years.
Drug Alcohol Treatment:
For all substance abusers, entering drug alcohol treatment is a terrifying experience. Thoughts of failure and disappointment consume their thoughts, often making it seem easier to walk around in a drug or alcohol induced haze than try to become clean.
A Home Away prides itself on its welcoming, warm, and home-like environment that immediately puts all guests at easy. They aim to provide a comforting and secure location where people from all walks of life can go to receive thorough drug alcohol treatment and the absolute best of care. Their limited number of highly qualified counselors ensures all guests receive personalized attention and healing. Everyone will benefit from A Home Away's unique one on one therapy sessions that help them recover and rediscover life in a secure setting, surrounded by people they trust and care for. A Home Away's caring environment facilitates sobriety and puts even the most anxiety-ridden guests at ease.
Drug Rehab Center:
Watching a loved ones life spiral out of control is an emotionally and psychologically taxing experience. Everyone wants to help their family and friends recover but are unable to do so until the substance abuser is willing to seek help.
Instead of worrying endlessly or waiting for a loved one to enter treatment, A Home Away recommends all family members and friends take action to secure their own health and piece of mind. Everyone watching someone battle a substance abuse problem should inform themselves on the nuances of addiction. By understanding the disease and treatment process, people will be better able to cope with their own physiological stress and help their loved ones once they decide to enter a drug rehab center. All family and friends of drug addicts should attend counseling sessions to cope with the guilt and worry they feel due to their loved one's illness. When a substance abuser enters A Home Away, everyone will greatly benefit from their family therapy sessions that help facilitate communication, healing, and psychological strength between drug users and their families.
Drug Rehab Program:
Have an addict in the family can emotionally, psychologically, and financially cripple even the most stable families. Substance abuse attacks families on a number of different levels, often leading to strained relationships and hostility.
Before an addict enters a drug rehab program, a family's balance is disrupted; children become caretakers, caring parents become enablers, and addicts lie, steal, and manipulate. This exchange of roles, often brought on by denial, leads to severe psychological and emotional scarring that can only be healed through therapy. For children with family members who are addicts, the normative changes of substance abuse can be extremely detrimental. Most kids internalize what is going on at home and end up blaming themselves for their family's troubles. In order to break this cycle it is important that the addict seeks help and the family members enter counseling to repair relationships and mend the psychological damage.
Drug Rehabilitation:
Many people believe they can conquer their drug or alcohol addiction on their own. Unfortunately, this is impossible. Substance abuse is a serious illness that necessitates life long treatment and diligence; there is no cure for addiction, it can only be managed and controlled through counseling and drive.
It is imperative that everyone living with a substance abuse problem seeks professional help from drug rehabilitation centers, addiction specialists, and therapists. For most people, an intervention is often the first step taken towards sobriety. Friends and family congregate to convince their loved one to enter treatment. After entering a drug rehabilitation program all abusers have to go through detoxification, where they rid their body of drugs or alcohol. This can be an extremely painful and potentially dangerous process that requires medical supervision. Most patients will experience severe vomiting, nausea, shaking, chills, and headaches, which in worst case scenarios can lead to delirium and seizures. Once an addict is clean they begin counseling and work with trained professionals to determine the root of their substance abuse problems. Therapy is often prolonged to increase their chance of recovery. Upon completing their drug rehabilitation program, addicts feel as if they've been given a new lease on life. They will always have to navigate their addiction but they are better equipped to fight their cravings and maintain their sobriety.
Drug Rehab:
It has been proven that the longer a person stays in drug rehab, the more equipped they are to battle their addiction in the future. People who spend over a month in rehab fair better at managing their illness and staying clean after returning to the real world.
A Home Away offers all the guests the option of staying up to four months at their serene drug rehab center. Their rehabilitation program focuses heavily on a variety of highly effective therapies and renewed mind, body, and spirit to reach sobriety. While traditional counseling plays a huge role in the A Home Away program, they aim to address their guests as a whole and not just their addiction. This includes offering spiritual exploration classes, a wide variety of extracurricular activities, yoga, and more to promote lifestyle changes and rebalance. This in conjunction with their cognitive behavioral therapy, existential philosophy and counseling, and underlying twelve step program, guarantees people will leave with a deeper understanding of their addiction and renewed interest in life.
Searching for Drug Rehabilitation:
Many people know they need help, but struggle with knowing how to find it. There are so many drug and alcohol and other addiction rehab treatment facilities or centers, some private, some government funded or operated, some exclusive, upscale, high end, luxury, and some institutional like. How do you find what is best suited for you as an individual, or for your family member? Perhaps you are a codependent (co-dependent) spouse, or adult child of an alcoholic (ACOA). How do you find help? The following keywords are what people just like you have used to help find what's best suited for them. We offer these suggestions to you and hope it helps you find what you need, and deserve. If you have other suggestions from your own experience, please contact us and let us know so we can continue to add to the list and help others. Thank you.
